Franciscan Children’s
Located in Boston’s Brighton community, Franciscan Children’s is a unique facility (one of four in the country) that accommodates the varied medical and educational needs of children with physical and/or emotional disabilities.
Terraink had the honor of working with Franciscan Children’s in the development of a master plan for the revitalization of an outdated, weathered and worn, .5-acre park that served as the children’s primary source of outdoor play and interaction with nature. Upon creation of the master plan, the Client was able to secure funding from donors to finance the installation of a new park that now accommodates the needs of this diverse group of children. The new park maintains a mobility garden (to help children learn how to walk and to navigate a variety of groundplane surfaces), a psychiatric respite zone, ADA play structures, seating, interactive play surfacing, and gathering opportunities for parents, visitors, and administrators.
