Florence Roche Elementary
The Florence Roche Elementary School is a Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) project located in Groton, Massachusetts, that serves Kindergarten through Grade 4 students and accommodates over 600 students. The final project successfully resolved the existing building challenges, including facility and system failures and significant classroom overcrowding.
We worked with the design team, Studio G Architects, and the School Building Committee (SBC) to respond to the District’s exterior program requirements, including a passive gathering/seating/walking zone, an active play area, an outdoor classroom/discovery zone, and opportunities to engage with the surrounding woodland and wetland habitats (for students and faculty!). We worked closely with the project’s civil engineer to ensure that all Universal Design requirements would be met, that clear visibility would be maintained, and that the aesthetic and sustainable program goals would exceed the initial project expectations.
